Frequently Asked Questions

There are two portions of the exam: the general portion and the state-specific portion. The general portion covers topics such as contracts, legal descriptions of property, types of financing available to purchasers, fair housing laws, and the role of the salesperson in assisting clients through the sale and purchase of property. The state-specific portion focuses on Minnesota laws and regulations, including timelines for returning security deposits, handling earnest money, and other state-required practices.

The exam is challenging and requires focused preparation. During class, we encourage active note-taking, in-depth discussion, and questions to reinforce understanding. We also provide homework assignments and a practice test to help you prepare. While we provide the tools and guidance to support your success, passing the state exam ultimately depends on your individual preparation. Many students find the Course 1 audiobook to be a helpful supplemental study resource.

You must score at least 75% on each portion of the exam in order to pass. Each portion is treated separately, so if you fail one portion, you only need to retake the portion you did not pass. The retake fee is $39 per portion. You may retake the exam as many times as necessary until you achieve a passing score. The exam is administered through PSI Exams, an international testing organization that provides both in-person and online testing options.
