About Our Classes
Learn how Minnesota’s required real estate courses are structured and explore the flexible formats available to complete your education.
Minnesota requires completion of Courses 1, 2, and 3 (30 hours each) before you can take the state licensing exam. Each course can be completed in one of the following formats:
In-Person
Attend live, instructor-led classes at our Roseville location in a structured classroom environment, where each full 30-hour course is delivered through scheduled sessions. Students also have access to practice exams, and the course final exams are completed in Roseville or with an approved proctor.
Live-Webinar
Join a live online class presented in real time by an instructor with an interactive virtual classroom experience. Complete each full 30-hour course online through a structured schedule with live attendance, and course final exams are completed in Roseville or with an approved proctor.
On-Demand
Work through course material online at your own pace with self-paced access to Course 1. The course includes interactive lessons and video instruction, allowing you to start anytime after enrollment, and course final exams are completed in Roseville or with an approved proctor.
We offer Course 1 in three flexible ways: in-person classes at our Roseville location, live online-webinars with a real instructor scheduled in advance, or our new Video On-Demand option that lets you start anytime and move at your own pace. After completing Course 1, you’ll take Courses 2 and 3 with us either in-person or via live-webinar. If you need a fully virtual path for all three courses and can’t attend our scheduled live sessions, we can connect you with our partner who provides on-demand options for Courses 2 and 3.
Course 1 is offered as a 30-hour program in three formats. For in-person or live online classes, you’ll have direct instruction with a live instructor, and we generally recommend about 1.5 hours of homework each night. If you miss any class time, you’ll need to make up the unit in another session, and we’ll help you plug into the next available class.
For Course 1 Video On-Demand, there is no scheduled instructor time. You complete the full 30 hours at your own pace by watching recordings of a live instructor. If questions come up, a licensed instructor is available via email and typically responds within one business day. This format allows you to fit your studies around work, family, or other commitments.
For Course 1, you’ll need to complete a final assessment to verify your identity and meet state requirements. This assessment can be completed in one of the following ways:
At our Roseville headquarters
You’ll come in to complete your assessment, present your ID, and complete an evaluation. This allows us to report to the state that you personally completed the course.
Online (virtual proctoring)
If you can’t travel to our Roseville location, you can take your assessment online. A licensed proctor will verify your identity remotely and use a secure access code to unlock your exam within our system.

It’s built specifically for Minnesota students by experienced Minnesota brokers and includes unlimited practice quizzes, comprehensive flashcards, randomized questions, and a 24/7 AI Exam Coach to help you prepare for both the state and national portions of the exam. You can study anytime, from any device, and keep lifetime access to the course.
Course 1 uses a textbook written by our founder, Mike Brennan, ensuring up-to-date material specific to Minnesota real estate. This applies to all learning formats, including Course 1 Video On-Demand.
No. In fact, we discourage using outside resources because many are written for other states, and the content can differ from what’s required in Minnesota. Our material is specifically designed for the Minnesota real estate exam and is comprehensive enough on its own. Whether you’re in a classroom, live online, or taking Course 1 Video On-Demand, you’ll have everything you need to prepare confidently.
Upon completion of any course, be it continuing education or licensing classes, you receive a certificate, stating that you’ve completed your hours of education.
To receive your official course completion certificate, your course must be completed entirely in one format — either in-person or video on-demand. Mixing formats is not permitted.
If you choose to switch formats, your previous progress will not transfer, and you will begin the course again in the new format.
You may change formats within six months of your original course start date, subject to the following:
• Video On-Demand to In-Person: Your full online payment will be credited toward the classroom option. You will pay only the price difference.
• In-Person to Video On-Demand: You will receive a refund for the difference in price.
All format changes must be arranged through The Realty School office.
